Monthly Feature Article

Hey everyone! Its your girl Gia aka Super K!

This months feature article focuses on two really colourful and amazing cultural branches, the first is Heritage day which is celebrated by the citizens of South Africa while the second is known as Navrati, a festival celebrated primarily by Hindu`s all around the world and everyone else who likes to join.

Heritage DAY:

Previously known as Shaka Day ,celebrated on the 24th of September, Heritage day is truly a celebration of South Africa`s history , cultural diversity and the journey our beautiful mother land and rainbow nation. Schools, hospitals, businesses, organisations generally encourage staff , students and employees to dress in their their traditional attire while other parts of society prefer spending the day in charitable deeds and others braai(the most recent initiative known as braai4heritage). It`s truly festive and a very individual in terms of the way it is commemorated however it is a timely reminder of the road we have travelled in history and how much progress we have made without turning a blind eye to the challenges we yet to overcome... So however you choose to celebrate your day, even if it is in simple joys with your loved ones do take a moment to be thankful for the present. For those around the globe to who Heritage day seems like an alien concept, join us in celebrating this day and celebrating the traditions and journey of your country. If you would like to read up more about the history of heritage day check out http://www.sahistory.org.za/people/king-shaka-zulu

Navratri:

Ahh! This is one festival that words cannot do justice to but I will try my best. Navratri comes around once a year during the month of Aasho as per the Hindu lunar calender. This year it commences on the 25th of September for nine days ,nine nights. So Navratri literally means nine nights, nine nights which celebrate 3 forms of Shakti(Feminine divine energy, energy of the mother) with great faith, grandeur, pomp, dance,a pop of colour and presence. I prefer calling it a spiritual party rather than religious. So allow me to break it down for you!

The first 3 days acknowledge and invoke the energy of Mother Kali, personally my favourite. She is fierce, justice personified ,her love is beyond comparison and she is known as the feminine form of Lord Rudra,to me she symbolises the naked truth courage and child like purity.I think every women can learn something from Mother Kali and that is the balance she displays between showering unconditional love and placing boundaries to protect truth, self worth and dignity!

The second 3 nights invoke Mother Lakshami. She is the Goddess of prosperity, good health ,intellectual and material wealth. She bestows peace, humility, success and victory in all spiritual and material dimensions of life. She surely is well poised and a reminder of what truly brings wealth so take a moment to recall what adds value to your life especially since all the ladies always be giving so much of them fine selves!

The last three nights invoke Mother Saraswati. A symbol of purity, internal and external knowledge, she is always dressed in white and she is definitely awesome to invoke when you need some help with your studies or even personal guidance in inner turmoil situations. She reminds us of our potential and other self empowering qualities which lie within us and which we instinctively share that with our loved ones,be sure to take a bite for yourself as well!

Women are required to balance society, not only saints but even intellectuals have acknowledged this. Intellectuals such as those present in the the world commission on environment and development who tried to and emphasise that for better status of women as mentioned in a book published by Yale titled "Environment an interdisciplinary anthology".

Remember this in these nine days and take a small step towards empowering a young girl,a mother,a daughter ,a sister,a granny or just a random awesome lady!
Stay present or you`ll always be a peasant!
Remember to comment and share if you like it!  ;)
Thanks for reading! Peace!....Keep it wise as always!

If you trying to fit in you most probably don`t belong there so take your fine self to your mirror an start to appreciate and accept yourself before you expect others to do so, learn to love what you see in the mirror...to be more specific ,in the words of Ekhart Tolle “Give up defining yourself - to yourself or to others. You won't die. You will come to life. And don't be concerned with how others define you. When they define you, they are limiting themselves, so it's their problem. Whenever you interact with people, don't be there primarily as a function or a role, but as the field of conscious Presence. You can only lose something that you have, but you cannot lose something that you are.” Happy Weekend Peeps! Freak out this weekend with some self -love!!! you are worth it!
